OLDCASTLE PULL AWAY IN SECOND HALF

Wednesday May 15th 2019
Masita ladies SFC Round 2

Full time: St. Michaels 1-09, Oldcastle 2-17,
Half time: St. Michaels 0-06, Oldcastle 1-05.

St. Michaels and Oldcastle played out an entertaining and competitive opening half of this Masita SFC match in Carlanstown on Wednesday evening last in which both sides had their spells in the ascendancy, however the second half proved to be a different story altogether as Oldcastle proved that they had too many weapons all over the field for the home side to contain.

Sinéad McCormack cancelled out two early points from Oldcastle but the visitors struck for their opening goal on nine minutes, both sides traded points for the remainder of the half with Seona Lynch (2), Megan O’Brien (1) and Alicia Curtis (1) on target for the home side however that earlier goal gave Oldcastle a two point advantage at the interval, 1-5 to 0-6.

A Sinéad McCormack point 20 seconds after the re-start was just the lift the St. Michaels girls required but Oldcastle replied with three points of their own in as many minutes, Seona Lynch reduced the deficit by one on 37 minutes but for the next 12 minutes Oldcastle could do no wrong as they added 1-5 to the scoreboard for a 1-13 to 0-8 lead with 12 minutes of the half remaining. The second half effort of the St. Michaels girls couldn’t be questioned but they never quite got into the same flow they were in in the opening period as the Oldcastle girls completely dominated and the game was put to bed when they recorded their second major on 50 minutes and they added a further four points before the final whistle for a comprehensive victory.
