FARRELLY IN TOP FORM

BFL Division 2, round 3

Full time: St. Michaels 4-05, Moynalvey 0-14,
Half time: St. Michaels 1-02, Moynalvey 0-08.

A brace of second half goals from the big target man Jamie Farrelly playing at full forward helped St. Michaels seal the points with their opening victory of this campaign over a determined Moynalvey side in a blustery Carlanstown on Thursday evening last.
Although Farrelly opened the scoring with a point in the opening minute it was Moynalvey who dictated the possession throughout the opening 30 minutes and built up a 0-8 to 1-2 interval lead. Ben Farrell got St. Michaels second point on 6 minutes but their supporters had to wait until the 28th
minute for their next score when Farrelly put Justin McPhillips through for the opening goal of the match.

Moynalvey extended their lead with a point 30 seconds into the new half, however Jamie Farrelly got the first of his two majors on 34 minutes to reduce the deficit to just a point but the visitors sent over a further two unanswered points to stay three in front. Farrelly split the posts with his second minor on 46 minutes which was soon cancelled out by the visitors, however the St. Michaels lads kept pumping high balls into Farrelly who plucked them from the night sky with ease, turning and posting one under the crossbar and one over it to put his side one point to the good with 8 minutes remaining on the clock. Moynalvey kept plugging away and their efforts were rewarded with two further points to leave just two between the sides with a minute remaining, however a point from the hard working Paddy Clarke in injury time settled the nerves for the home side and secured the points.
Along with the scorers Daithí O’Reilly, Gavan Sweeney, Ben & Ray Reilly were others to impress for the home side.
