Ciaran Lynch added a further 2 points to leave it all square at the break, 0-4 to 1-1.

Curraha were first out of the blocks in the second half with a pointed free after 2 minutes, points from Robert Briody, Ciaran Lynch ( 2 ) and Kevin Cassidy gave the winners a 3 point cushion mid way through the second half, Curraha pointed after 22 minutes to reduce the deficit to two points, substitute Graham Owens popped over the last point of the match on 25 minutes to secure the victory. St. Michaels had to endure intense pressure in the final minutes of the match as Curraha piled on the pressure in an effort to salvage something from the game, however St. Michaels defended well with Darren O’Connell, Mark Stafford and man of the match Philip Rogers excelling in the backs, the latter having played through the pain barrier and had to spend Saturday & Sunday night in hospital to get an injury which he sustained the previous Sunday in training treated.

BRILLIANT PERFORMANCE FROM U-14 GIRLS

U-14 Division 3 Football League final.
St. Michaels 4-8, Dee Rangers 2-2.
Sunday September 13th 2009 in Dunganny.

St. Michaels captured the U-14 Division 3 league cup at Dunganny on Sunday with a great overall team display, they were in control all over the pitch especially in the backs where Jackie Tobin excelled, ably assisted by Alana Kernan, Anna McQuaid and Lauren Doyle.

Playing against the breeze and up the slight hill in the first half, St. Michaels were first to score with points from Alisha Curtis ( two ) and Edwina Olwell, Dee Rangers replied with a goal and a point, however Megan Neary blasted a low ball to the net to regain the lead for St. Michaels. Three more points from Edwina Olwell, Alisha Curtis and a brilliant long range point from Rachel Lynch left St. Michaels with a 2-5 to 1-1 lead at the interval.

Within seven minutes of the restart the match was over as a contest as St. Michaels had added a further 2-1 to the score board all coming from the boot of the brilliant Alisha Curtis. Edwina Olwell added another point and Rachel Lynch had another long range point which hopped in the square and over the bar.
Dee Rangers converted a penalty and added two further points to their first half tally.

RED HOT ALICIA CURTIS ON FIRE

U-16 Division 3 League Final
St. Michaels 6-7, Summerhill 2-7.
Sunday Oct. 11th 2009 in Dunganny

St. Michaels added the U-16 title to the U-14 trophy they won at the same venue four weeks ago when they defeated Summerhill in this match at Dunganny. The match was spoiled for both teams and the large crowd by the referee who continually stopped play for even the slightest player contact.
Alicia Curtis who notched up 3-3 in the U-14 final was to the fore again with a tally of 4-1, 3-1 of that score coming in the first half giving St. Michaels a 4-3 to 2-4 interval lead.
Summerhill started stronger in the second half but were unable to make it count on the scoreboard due mainly to Jackie Tobin who put in a player of the match performance at full back for the winners, she was ably assisted by Katie Reilly. Megan O’Brien was also a thorn in the Summerhill side as she caused havoc with her darting runs all over the pitch.
Rachel Lynch and Niamh McCormack were others who shone for the winners in what was a good team performance.

St. Michaels:
Alana Kernan, Katie Reilly, Jackie Tobin, Sarah Tobin, Megan Rooney, Rachel Lynch,
Rebecca O’Brien, Megan O’Brien 0-1, Fiona Drew 1-0, Niamh McCormack, Leanne Lynch 1-4, Claire O’Connell 0-1, Laura Plunkett, Alicia Curtis 4-1, Edwina Olwill.

Half time St. Michaels 0-1, Curraha 1-6.

St. Michaels second goal from Stephen Dolan left them trailing by just one point with 7 minutes remaining, Shane McCormack leveled the match and Shane McDonnell scored the winning point in injury time.
