Sam Maguire’s In Town

There’s not many villages out there that can say that the Sam Maguire Cup visited them not once, not twice, but three times inside a 10 year period, Carlanstown can boast that fact. In 1987, 1988 and 1996 Martin O’Connell brought the Sam Maguire Cup back to his home village where he was greeted by the masses, In the weeks after Meath’s All-Ireland successes he and some of his team mates visited Carlanstown and Kilbeg National Schools where they were again greeted by lots of joyful children…… Happy days, will we ever see the likes of them again?
Here is a taste of the joyous scenes from back then.
