St. Michaels / Nobber collect hard earned points

Sunday October 20th 2019
U-15 FL Division 4. ( 13 aside )

Full time: St. Michaels/Nobber 4-13 (25), Moynalvey/Boardsmill 5-06 (21),
Half time: St. Michaels/Nobber 1-05, Moynalvey/Boardsmill 3-06

The St. Michaels / Nobber combination recovered from a poor first half performance to collect both points in this enthralling contest in Carlanstown on Sunday morning last.
While the teams were very evenly matched, it did not look that way in the opening exchanges as Moynalvey / Boardsmill threatened to raise the green flag every time they went forward and that they did on three occasions in the opening 30 minutes, a tally which could have been greater but for some fine saves from stand-in keeper Jamie Murray.

The visitors were 2-2 up before Jack Moriarty opened the scoring with a goal after 16 minutes play. Moriarty, Conor Owens, Declan Reilly and Gustas Povecivios all pointed before the Moynalvey / Boardsmill side got their next score, a point on 28 minutes, they won the next kick-out and had the ball in the back of the net for their third major as half time approached and they still managed a further two minors before the short whistle to lead by 3-6 to 1-5 at the break. Moriarty finished the half with a pointed free.

JoJo Ogungbe opened the home sides second half account which was quickly followed by a Jakub Bidinski goal, Declan Reilly added 2 points to leave just a point between the sides, however Moynalvey / Boardsmill hit back with their fourth goal for a four point lead. A point followed from Owens before Ogungbe and Bidinski both hit the onion bag for a three point lead for the St. Michaels/Nobber outfit. That lead was short lived as the visitors levelled the match in the 50th minute but some great defending by the home side especially from Jack Griffin Scott Farrell, Colin Condra and Paddy Fitzsimons kept the Moynalvey / Boardsmill side at bay as they failed to score again. Moriarty (2), Ogungbe (1) and Fitzsimons (1) finished out the scoring for the St. Michaels / Nobber lads.

Sunday September 22nd 2019
U-15 FL Division 4, round 3

Full time: St. Michaels/Nobber 3-08, Summerhill 2-10,
Half time: St. Michaels/Nobber 3-03, Summerhill 0-04.

The north Meath combination of St. Michaels and Nobber survived a couple of late scares to collect their first points of this campaign in Carlanstown on Sunday morning.

They needed the steadying influence of Patrick Fitzsimons to get through this tough assignment as he split the posts for the winning point from a free in the second minute of injury time. The Summerhill lads made the home side work hard for their victory especially in the second half when they came from eight points down at half time to draw level in the 59th minute.

Aaron Gaffney opened the home sides account which was quickly followed by a Jakub Bidinski goal, Colin Condra found the back of the net after 20 minutes before Bidinski bagged his second major for a 3-3 to 0-4 half time lead. Fitzsimons and JoJo Ogungbe each pointed before the short whistle.

Summerhill were quickly off the mark in the second half and had added 2-3 to their tally by the end of the third quarter. Fitzsimons and Bidinski posted a point apiece to keep the home side ticking however Summerhill were on a roll and kept picking off their scores at will. Declan Reilly and Ogungbe both pointed but again the visitors kept plugging away adding points to tie the match at 2-10 to 3-7 with a minute of normal time remaining. Then the pressure from the St. Michaels / Nobber side yielded a free which Fitzsimons calmly slotted over for two valuable points.
